Cherokee County is steeped in history — from the years when this land was home to the Creek and Cherokee Indians through the chronicles of modern-day pioneers.

The Cherokee County Historical Society is dedicated to historic preservation and education.

Join the Cherokee County Historical Society, the Coosa River Basin Initiative, the Upper Etowah River Alliance and Georgia River Network

For this special day and evening on the Etowah River near Canton Georgia.

This event features a tour of historic Edgewater, the circa 1922 home of A.L. Coggins, a six-mile paddle on the Etowah River featuring Native American fish weirs and other historic sites and a dinner at "The Rock Barn" the historic horse barn that now serves as the headquarters of the Cherokee County Historical Society. This is one of Georgia River Network's "Hidden Gems" paddles. Register and reserve your space. Tickets are $75 or $130 per couple. Price includes canoe or kayak rentals, dinner, drinks, tours, a chance to win a new recreational kayak, a copy of the recently published Etowah River User's Guide and a year's membership in each participating organization.

The Cherokee County Historical Society is pleased to announce the new temporary exhibition to be featured at the Cherokee County History Museum and Visitors Center. The Canton Cotton Mills were started in 1900 and operated until 1981, serving as a main industry and employer in Canton for several generations. The exhibit will feature photographs, documents, and artifacts from the Societys collection, including the original steam-powered mill whistle and gauge.
